Who is Law? July 12, 2008
Coffee has been a large part of my life since college. I was working as a security officer on the grave shift to put myself through school and had a real hard time staying awake. Once I even fell asleep at the wheel. A friend of mine introduced me to my first cup, full of cream and sugar so I’d drink it. I was hooked, mostly as a source of caffeine but I started really looking forward to it.
On a trip to Brazil in 2001, I had to compensate for a lack of half and half by drinking my coffee black. As it turns out, I started to prefer my coffee black. Now that’s not to say I can’t appreciate a cappuccino or a lattee from time to time, but my morning coffee is always black.
In 2005 my wife and I got married in Hawaii, the only place in the USA that grows coffee that anyone would drink. It was there that I had my first cup of Kona, and I was blown away. Like your first In-N-Out burger, this was a game changer. Coffee never tasted so good.
My wife started picking up some locally roasted beans and ordered some extra whenever she got beans for her espresso, but I didn’t really get the bug until I moved to North Carolina. Honestly, I think the overwhelming variety of what I found at Southern Season was the what did it. I knew I wanted to try them all.
So why start a blog about coffee? Well, I needed to find a way to keep track of what I liked and know which ones to avoid in the future. I could keep a list on a notepad or in excel or something, but I’m a web developer, blogs are what I do. Besides, why not share my experience so smart shoppers could find a review before they buy?
I hope you enjoy the blog, and experience some great coffee as a result.
Lawrence
